In a previous review, I shared my first experience with the Darkness! series by Master of Malt. Given how great the Darkness! Tobermory 22 Year was, I was eager to try another. Thanks to my friends at Milroy’s of Soho, they recommended this Bladnoch 27 Year PX cask. This is by far the most “dessert-like” dram I’ve ever experienced. It’s almost too sweet; very different from other Bladnoch’s I’ve tried. A great night cap, nonetheless!

TASTING NOTES
Glass for Review: Spiegelau Nosing Glass
Nose: Thick chocolate syrup, butterscotch, walnuts, buttery pastries and peanut butter cookies. The nose is rather light, which I found surprising
Palate: The palate was quite different than the nose. Much nuttier mixed with a punch of butterscotch, blended with toffee and caramel. Chocolate sauce, mousse, and dark fruits toward the finish. Very syrupy – and almost sickly sweet. This one has me scratching my head, it’s different, definitely not what I was expecting from the nose.
Finish: Chocolate covered nuts, waves of sherry, cherries, a touch of raspberry, walnuts, cashews, and almonds round out the finish. A very wet and complex finish has me licking my lips for another sip.
Overall: This dram was not what I expected based on the nose, but I was not disappointed. The syrupy chocolate and nutty notes are extremely prevalent in this dram. I’d consider this one a dessert whisky – it’s definitely one of the sweetest whiskies I’ve ever had. At 56.5% this could be dangerous if the “sugar rush” didn’t get you first.
