While recently in London I had to stop by my favorite whisky bar, Milroy’s of Soho, where the gentlemen always recommend a great hard-to-find whisky. Feeling in the mood for some interesting Sherry casks, the Darkness! Tobermory 22 Year Moscatel finish was recommended.
Darkness! is an independent bottling by Master of Malt, where each release is finished in a 50-liter cask. 50 liters, 50cl bottles, only 100 bottles per run – so these bottle go quick! This expression was distilled by Tobermory on the Isle of Mull and then finished in a Moscatel Sherry cask giving it plenty of Sherry influence!

TASTING NOTES
Glass for Review: Spiegelau Nosing Glass
Nose: Very light on the nose. Belgian waffles, danishes, sweet pastries with cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg. Macadamia and walnuts, and a drift of chocolate.
Palate: Syrupy start with notes of fresh tiramisu and more of the macadamia from the nose. Sweet spices and sherry follow through, with toffee and espresso. Chocolate malt rises toward the finish.
Finish: Long lasting syrupy finish that lingers. Only slightly tannic with notes of s’mores, and dark chocolate ganache, and cheesecake turns into sweet toasted nuts.
Overall: An interesting dram that evolves with each sip, and maintains the same character from nose to finish. A dessert like dram.
